Website Link Strategies

eJustice Legal Marketing

Every company that wants to gain more clients online should have a link strategy for their website. Your company's website can be polished, effective, and doing a great job on its own, but it will be even better ─ and rank higher on search engine results ─ when it has a network of links between it and other relevant websites.

Here's how it works:

Research, thought and discussion will help determine a fair number of websites of other companies or organizations with which your company should trade website links. The "trade" concept is crucial. Your site adds links to those other websites, and the other websites each link to your website. Search engines add value to your site when it has reciprocal links.

The logic is simple: if other organizations find your site important enough that they provide a link to it, your site has more value than a site with no such in-bound links.

Links That Make Sense and Add Value
However, the links can't be bogus or irrelevant, placed there simply to artificially augment the traffic to your site. The links have to make sense within the context of the content on your site and the linking site. They should also give visitors to your site something of value to go to.

For example, if your company provides a healthcare service, it makes sense to provide links to healthcare-related sites such as those of well-respected government health agencies. In fact, reciprocal links to government sites (ending with ".gov") or educational institutions (ending with ".edu") are high-quality, desirable links ─ if you can get them; remember, you need to get the other party to agree to put a link to your site on their website.

The most important thing is that the other end of your reciprocal link is an entity that is relevant and adds value: private companies, individuals, blogs, government or educational websites, image or video databases, etc. Contacting the webmasters of the desired sites is the next step.

Make Your Website Original and Attractive
Attracting in-bound links is another strategy. The best way to attract interested webmasters and their sites is to have well-written, unique, and high-value content on your website. The better your content, the more likely it is that others will want to link to your site. With informative content and constantly fresh and updated text provided in a "news" section and/or blog, other parties will find your company's site worth linking to.
